Is 'There is said to be a monster in the island.' or "There is believed/thought to be a monster in the island" grammatical?

The common preposition is 'on the island'.

I agree that we normally say "on the island"; however, "in" gives me the idea of an enclosed or otherwise limited space within (or inside) which something can be found.
