I have been told by an English teacher (not a native one) that:
There is only you and the computer.
is correct whereas:
There are only you and the computer.
is incorrect. However I'm sure that the second sentence is the correct one. What do you think?

The style manuals are pretty much in agreement about this. In the pattern below you can use either 'is' or 'are' if X is a singular noun.
There is/are X and Y.
