What does 'there was no way' mean?

"He assured her that there was no way he would hurt her son on purpose.

It's really just an emphatic negative.

There is no situation/circumstance in which I would hurt your son on purpose.

eg The traffic is terrible. There's no way (that) I can get to work on time.

and

mean the same?

But 'no way' is more colloquial and more emphatic.
