There is a vestige of....

Does the bold sentence want to say "24 Hour Psycho commercial provides some kind of experience on behalf of Hitchcock's psycho movie which combines with the what the viewers remember of their own experiences of Hitchcock's psycho movie in the past"?

Context:
The shots in 24 Hour Psycho commercial, although stretched beyond the limits of their narrative function, rely equally on familiarity with the horror genre and the sort of suspense associated with Hitchcock. It is this familiarity with the original film and its enormous cultural cachet that offsets the fact that you might have happened along to view 24 Hour Psycho during one of its less thrilling moments. There is a vestige of the sort of vicarious experience the film normally provides which combines with the viewer’s own recall of his or her previous experience of the film and compensates for the way that the film has been rendered in ‘longhand’. Tag, on the other hand, moves in the opposite direction and relies on people’s knowledge of the genre in order to create a shorthand version (Art and Advertising by Joan Gibbons).

  • Kind of.
  • A vestige is a remnant, something left over.
  • I think the writer meant something more like "trace", though, and some dictionaries report this meaning.
