There aren’t enough hours in the day

I found the following expression from a book.


There aren’t enough hours in the day


Though we usually use "on" before a day, in the above sentence "in" is used instead of "on". Could someone please explain the reason for this.

Consider the preposition in.

A jar can hold 12 marbles. There are 12 marbles in the jar.

A day has 24 hours. There are 24 hours in a day.
