There are vs are

Hi

I stumbled on this sentence:

How many eggs are in this cake?

Sounds odd to me. It should be "how many eggs are there in this cake?"

Do you agree or am I wrong?

Thanks!

Hi,
As Phillip rightly explained, both are grammatically correct and sound natural, however, as I am a fan of conciseness, I don't like redundancy, therefore, I prefer the first alternative. It sounds more natural to my ear.

MustAskIt should be "how many eggs are there in this cake?"
Strictly speaking, you may be right, but we often ask this kind of question without "there", so both versions sound fine to native ears.
