There are two candidates for precidency?

Hello my friends.

What role does "for" have in these kinds of sentences?

"There are two candidates who are for precidency" doesn't sound nice to me.

So I don't want to say: "For precidency" has an adjectival function.

In my opinion, it is an adverbial phrase here because we can also say:
"For precidency, There are two candidates this year."

What do you think? Thank you.

Jawel "There are two candidates who are for presidency " doesn't sound nice to me. That means that these two candidates are in favor of having a type of government that has an executive branch with a president. The other candidates are against the proposition.
