There are

There are over 1.3m patient attendances in Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) each year and almost every patient in our care requires medicinesduring their stay. Please explain the use of structure "there are " and use of a coordinating conjunction "and" in

"and almost every patient..."?

I know that "and" is used to connect grammatically equal elements so which two elements are context with "and" here?
