There are

Hi,
"There are four rooms in the apartment."
Can I use 'has' instead of 'there are' here? For example:

"The apartment has four rooms."

Do they mean the same?

Thanks!

Hi Clive,
"There's a fly in my soup."
Is it also fine to say "My soup has a fly"?

Thanks!

Hi,

That's not wrong, but it sounds odd. More natural is 'My soup has a fly in it'.

Hi,
Is it correct to say these? I assume you mean 'Is it natural?'
"How many are there in your class?" Yes
"There are twenty in my class." Yes
"How many people does your family have?"No.

Hi Clive,
Do you say "How big is your class?" to mean "how many are there in your class?"

"The table has a glass of water."
I don't think a table possesses a glass of water in the example. Why can we use "has" here?

Thank you very much.
