Theory of "the" Automata? / Basics of "the" Management

Theory of the Automata
Basics of the Management

I saw those two titles in a university's subjects lists (a university in a non-English speaking country). I'm not a native English speaker, but the usage of "the" in those two titles sounds a bit strange to me. Can someone please clarify? Is it correct to use "the" in any of those cases?
