Which expressions should I use in the following sentences?

My girlfriend and I once had a quarrel. Then one morning, I (felt that my heart broke, felt my heart break) when I found out that she had left. It was like a punch in the face. I was a mess. I couldn’t think straight. I didn’t have (anyone, shoulders, any shoulders) to cry on.
