Themselves/each other

Hello,
I think I understand the difference between themselves/each other/one another, for example:
Tom and Meryl looked at themselves in the mirror. (Tom looked at himself and so did Meryl)
Tom and Meryl looked at each other in the mirror. (Tom looked at Meryl and Meryl looked at Tom)

I have seen such an example recently:
'They agreed amongst _themselves____ that they would not tell anyone'

Could we put 'each other/one another' here?

Yes, but in this example it's hard for me to feel the difference between themselves and each other..
I think that 'each other' expresses a kind of relation between two people..(as in the example with mirrors)
When we are talking about 'agreement' I feel it implies that a relation/contact between two people has taken place...
Are these sentences correct then?
