Themselves / them

Hello, I have a question and can anyone tell me which one is right between the two sentences? 1.They asked me to teach themselves English. 2. They asked me to teach them English. I think #2 sounds better. What do you think? Both are fine? Thanks in advance.

Themselves is a reciprocal pronoun, meaning 'each other'. If I'm doing the teaching, they aren't. So it should be them.
