'The subject of festivals, exhibitions, or lectures' sound like a general essay on how such event are planned and presented.

'The theme of a festival or exhibition' would be the general thrust of the individual event (e.g. the theme of Ramidan is patience, spirituality, humility and submissiveness to ***.)

Lectures do not have themes, but topics or subjects,
