Theme and effect

0 Although I am an English major and an English teacher, I have never heard of these two terms used together in literary analysis. Nevertheless, this is what I am supposed to use in one of the questions in the assessment portion for the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards Certification. I have even called the university from which I graduated and asked a professor for help. She had no idea. I am supposed to interpret the theme and described the effect, and provide support for the theme and effect. Can someone help me? 0-
