Them

Hi teachers,

Excerpts:

1. The Conservatives, led by David Cameron, invested considerable time and money buying up Googles ad words, allowing them to target their online massage.

Does them mean "The Conservatives"?

2. A convincing case can be made that the reaction to the first television debate came about because polling companies are now able to use Internet panels, allowing them to provide reliable instant reaction.

Does "them" refer to polling companies?

Thank you.

1-- No, but it could be either 'Google' or 'ad words'; I'm not quite sure how the system works. 2-- It could be either 'companies' or 'panels' grammatically; again, I'm not familar with the system being described.
