Hi,

Can anybody help me with the following sentence?

He is one of those people who are always whining about their life/lives.

But i have a doubt. In the sentence, we are referring to a group of people who share the same type of life. So shouldn't we be using life instead of lives????

Not unless they are talking about their life together.

We sometimes use a singular in English when speakers of other languages use the (apparently more logical) plural:

The men took
