Speech & Pronunciation

Thee or thu

Hi. Are we guided by the sound of the vowel sounds as in the case of deciding whether to pronounce the word "the" as "thee" or "thu"?

So, the word "the" before the word "university" should be pronounced "thu" since it has a consonent sound at the beginning?

The "uh" sound is called the schwa sound, and is found in the unstressed syllables of words. The spelling can be almost any vowel letter. The schwa sound extends to sentences - the vowels in the articles "the" and "a" are pronounced with the schwa sound if they are unstressed in the natural cadence of the sentence.

Thank you. How would you pronoun the word "the" before the word "university"? Would you do it like "the idea" or "the book"?

Well, it depends.
Suppose there are two universities in my city. One has a very high reputation, the best teachers, the hardest classes, and is very famous. The other does not have a very good reputation.
Someone asks me "Which university did you attend?" Now, I am very proud because I went to the best one. I say "I went to THE (THEE) university" I am telling the other person that there
