The/a wrong diagnosis

Hi

A simple question:

To receive [a/the] wrong diagnosis.

I would be inclined to say 'the', but I may be wrong here.

Thanks!

To me and with just that semi-sentence, both articles are possible. It depends whether that wrong diagnoses is known from before or not. If you know it, so use the "the" otherwise use "a".

the wrong thing is a fixed expression.
eg the wrong hat
eg the wrong bill
eg the wrong diagnosis.

But I'd speak of eg an incorrect diagnosis.
