The/a toilet

We have an extra toilet cover and have toilets more than one in our house. My son was asking what the toilet cover was, and I had a confusion of which article to use.
1) it's for the toilet.
2) it's for a toilet.
3) it's for toilets.

Which one is correct? We hadn't talked about any toilet until that moment, and he just saw a thing and asked me what it was. Should I use 'the' to indicate the thing you've already known and use everyday, or 'a' ?

Mister MicawberI'd use #1 or #2.
Would you agree to the idea of using #1 as I stated, or for some different meaning?
