the words "discussion" and "debate"

Please take a look at a couple of phrases below and tell me if the first one is referring to quality and/or nature of itself and the second one is used as described.

1. through discussion and debate and through meaningful discussion and lively debate (two words, discussion and dabate, are used to mean their quality or nature.)

2. through discussions and debates and through meaningful discussions and lively debates (two words are used to mean their individual cases.)

Debate is a verbal contest involving 2 or more people who want to prove their points or

establish their agendas; such as a mayoral debate, or presidential debate, not discussion.

Hi,

When you say 'quality and/or nature of itself', I wonder if you are thinking of 'in a general sense'? That's how I would think of it.
