The Word "Such"

Hi, I'm writing a personal summary of a book and was wondering what the word "such" is doing in this sentence.

"Bias and prejudice close minds and stifle critical inquiry; the first task in good critical reasoning is to eliminate such bias."

I have looked at the word under the number six of the adjective category as the most relevant definition for this context "Being the...thing...indicated"; the reference is www.dictionary.com using the Random House dictionary.

If "such" was removed from sentence, I would still understand that bias is the thing that needs to be removed. Is there more meaning that the word "such" is adding?

Please tell me if the format of this post needs to be improved.

Thanks.
