the word "bad"

Hi.

Actually, this is a general problem.

I'll refer to the word bad, though. To me, bad has basically two meanings. first. opposite of good. sencond. something like terrible.

So when does it mean what? It's a bad story. Is it a story that is not good or is it terrible? Adjectives often have several meanings. But when do they mean what? Is it often ambiguous? Or is it clear because of the way I say the word?

thanks you very much!
