The word (or nonword) groupmate

Is "groupmate" a word or term in English? Is it actually used by native English speakers, and if yes, is it closed up or an open compound? Thanks!

Hello, sarcandra - and welcome to English Forums. No, 'groupmate' is not a generally accepted term in Engish; you should use 'fellow group member', for instance. Or you could change your terminology and use 'teammate'.

Double thanks, Mister Micawber. I suppose it's the same for "officemate,""churchmate", etc.?

Office-mate, okay. This is the person you literally share your office with, not a co-worker or colleague. I work in a large space that two other women work in, and I refer to them as my office-mates.

Church-mate? No.
