The word "lay" with refreshments

Hi

I saw in a local newspaper the word lay used for refreshments? Is it OK? I have always used serve.

What times will the refreshments be laid?

Thanks,

Tom

I have never seen the word "lay" used as a substitute for "serve", nor would I recommend that it be used that way. Some verbs that you can use with "refreshments" are: arranged distributed dispensed

Sounds odd to me.

One might say this.
What time will the refreshments be laid out?

laid out - placed on the table
