The word customer

Would customer be the right choice of word when referring to someone who visits a theme park.

The customer pays for admission for the theme park and the rides are free

The example used is " I had to make sure the customers were confident with the controls"

Generally I think of customers as people who buy a product or an item, but because they are buying access I wouldn't use it. Thoughts on this?
