This usage of "comeback" as an adjective is colloquial and it would look strange in formal written language. I think the first usage was probably the "comeback kid" though I don't know who this was. A "comeback kid" for example is someone who was strong in their competitive field, suffered adversity and a loss of their high status, probably did a lot of work, and then recovered their former high position.
