The word behoove

I made a statement this morning at work, and I apparently did not use the word behoove correctly. My supervisor suddenly went out of her way to research the word on the internet to let me know that it was used incorrectly. I was looking at the headlines in the paper, and said that it behooves me as to how someone could do .......According to her I use it quit often and I did not realize that I was. If I am, I would like to know what word I could use instead.

Thank You

Behoove, what a word ! I came by it the other evening !

I think you ought to use it this way:

It behooved her to be wary of strangers on the street, what with all the robbings and shootings going on for decades in town.

There's nothing to it, child's play

I believe you're thinking of the word "befuddle," a close synonym for "puzzle." You could correctly say that

it befuddles you as to how someone could do thus and so.

Or 'it bemuses me'. Too bad the OP is 2 years a-gone.
