The weeks in the build up to the lunar new year's day???

Please look at the following sentence.

"Typically the weeks in the build up to "Tet"(the lunar new year's day) are when most people, particularly students and workers, return to their family homes in other provinces"

Is this sentence right in grammar? I feel that the words "the build up' is a little strange.

Thank you for your answer in advance.
