The weather was not on my side

Do you think this sentence is correct? Since I was told we use "on your side" for people only.

The weather was not on my side (since I heard we use "on my side" for people...). The person wanted to say the weather did not accompany him, was not good

It sounds perfectly natural to me. It's a sort of personification, attributing human characteristics to something non-human.
