The weather or weather

1. When I came to England some years ago, I had difficulties due to the cold weather.

2. When I came to England some years ago, I had difficulties due to cold weather.

I am not sure whether to use the article in the above context. I know the word 'weather' is uncountable.

Hi again Andrei, I would choose sentence 1 because you are talking about the weather at a specific time and place. Sentence 2 suggests that your journey to England was affected by cold weather. Regards, Mike
