Grammar

The way they have

Dear teachers,

The following is an excerpt from 60 minutes:

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/chobani-yogurt-billionaire-founder-on-creating-jobs-in-america/

Hamdi says he had no idea that things would turn out the way they have when he came to America 23 years ago and bought that shuttered yogurt factory in upstate New York. He is now showing his gratitude. A year ago, he gave 10 percent of all of his equity in Chobani to his employees.

=> Could you please let me know the meaning of "Hamdi says he had no idea that things would turn out the way they have when he came to America 23 years ago"?

Does this mean that Hamdi did not expect that things will be like now when he came to America?

=> Does "The way they have" mean in a current way? This expression is very new to me.

=> How about this sentence: Let's do this way we have?

Thanks and best regards,

David Kim

It means the way/how they (things) have turned out.

???=> How about this sentence: Let's do this way we have?

I have no idea what that sentence is supposed to mean.
