I have been wondering for quite a long time how such a title of Timberland's song is possible. Isn't it just ungrammatical? I was looking for the answer in an article concerning Black English Vernacular, but I didn't find anything.

I don't think it's grammatical, not even in the singer's dialect. Actually, I don't even remember hearing "the way I are", but it sounded more like "the way I'm are". If I'm not mistaken, I remember reading they only chose to use that weird grammar structure for stylistic reasons, but I'm not sure. PS: I just listened to it, and it seems he needs to make it rhyme with "the way you are" ....
