The verd pending IF and the usage of Shall or Should

0I've used "IF" for a long time, not never know its correct usage....05002br
00suppose I have a sentence, 02br
001. If you were me, you will buy this jean. 02br
02br
00Does above sentence right?.... we put "were" after you?.... 02br
00but i got another question, why it doesn't make to say 02br
02br
002. If you are me, you will buy this jean?.. 02br
02br
00Does any rule relate to that? 02br
02br
00and another question is about the usage of shall or should 02br
02br
001. Shall I prepare my exam? 02br
00or 02br
002. Should I prepare my exam? 02br
02br
00I feel like that both sentence have no timing problem, and work well for 02br
00present and past time. 02br
02br
00Any help will be appreciated. 02br
00Thanks... 010id9

0Hi, Guest. Briefly: 02br 02br 001. ' -- 'were' and 'would' are needed here because the 'if'-clause states an untruth.

  • 0Hi, Guest.
  • Briefly: 02br 02br 001.
  • ' -- 'were' and 'would' are needed here because the 'if'-clause states an untruth.
  • In this sort of 'if'-clause, 'were' is used for all persons: 'if I were, if he were, if you were, if we were, if they were'.
  • 02br 02br 00For the same reason, #2 is wrong, because the 'if'-clause is contrary to fact: you are NOT me.
