The verbs

Does this sentence have any problem? Why please?

May I ask where do you live?

Top answer

It should be: May I ask where you live. The second clause is called an indirect question in grammar books, and therefore it must have the word order of an affirmative clause. If you leave out the first clause, the question is of course: Where do you live?

Cool BreezeWhere do you live?
This seems to have two clauses, "where" and "do you live?"
How we recognize how many clauses a sentence has? Using the conjunctions only?
