the verb referred to going from one point to another in tim

There is this verb but I'm not sure what but it is used to rgo or get over the gap between one point and another IN TIME. I know this is not clear, but by memory I think it could look a lot like the word "lap" (but when I looked it up, none of the definition comes remotely close to what I'm looking for). Thank you.
