The verb 'advise' --objects and prepositions

Advise me whether or not I should invest the money or spend it.

Advise whether or not I should invest the money or spend it.

Can we use 'advise' both transitively and intransitively?

Should we/could we include a preposition?

Advise me on whether or not I should invest the money or spend it.

Advise on whether or not I should invest the money or spend it.

Thanks

Same question for intend...

Happy with only the first?

I intended for Doug to clean the closet.

I intended Doug to clean the closet.

I intended on Doug cleaning the closet.

#1 certainly. It seems like I've heard or read #2. #3 seems suspect ('I planned on Doug cleaning' is OK), but maybe they use it somewhere. There is also 'I intended that Doug clean...' More research is needed, but I probably won't get around to it.

I hope you learn just a little bit when answering my questions. Or I hope at least it helps you think about grammar in a different way. Would hate to think this is only useful to one of us.

Oh, yes-- I learn one way or another. I learned a lot earlier on, but the curve has levelled off in the past couple of years. Not flat-lining yet, though.
