The using of the word "AS"

Dear techer,
Could you kindly assist in the usage of the word in the sentence. I know that it could be used as adverb, for example, he is as tall as his brother. What i dont understand is when it is used as the subject of the sentence, for example, in the aftermath of the North African Democratic revolution (which were not social revolution in their true sense, as has been made apparent by subsequent event in the region),Lindynoted a rapid politication. Is the word "as" in the foregoing sentence a subject of the verb "has been made".

Regards,

Phuti
