the using of going to and present continuous

what is the difference between present continuous as future form and the using of going to > because both we use it in the event that have already been planed

Top answer

As the present continuous is generally used for a future situation that has already been arranged and BE going to for a future situation for which there is present evidence, there is often no real difference if the present evidence is knowledge of the arrangement: I am meeting my colleagues at the pub tonight. I am going to meet my colleagues at the pub tonight. However, there are some things that can be arranged, but for which no arrangement can be made.
