the useage of broken as adjective

Mister Micawber;please let me ask a question.is it ok to write ''unfortunately, my cup was broken''? I am from myanmar.eng is not my mother language.i am not clear to use ''broken'' as adjective.so,help me explain this with example sentces.thanks a lot!
