the use of 'while'

Would it be "While running around, Beth couldn't stop thinking about candy", or "Running around, Beth couldn't stop thinking about candy".

This is a rather awkwardly constructed sentence. What do you mean by “running around”? If I say “the kids are running around in the park”, I am painting a picture in which children are frolicking and chasing each other in the park.
