The use of was and were

I have a problem with the use of were and was, can someone help me?

well, i mean in the use like the first form the third plural from like they was or they were...

If a pronoun is plural, you use 'were.' (you, they, we)

If a pronoun is singular, you use 'was.' (I, he, she, it)

Since 'you' is both plural and singular, you use 'were,' even if you're talking to only one person.
