The use of "the following"

Hi

Can we use "the following" like this in a letter or an email if the meaning is clear to both parties?

The following have been sorted out for you.

Instead of saying "the following tasks" or "the following sentences"...

Thanks,

Tom

Yes, as long as the prior text makes very clear what the word refers to. What do you mean by 'sorted out for you'? You should probably choose a better word or phrase.
