The Use of The Articles

I watched a few films yesteday and my question is about a/an. I will be pleased if someone explains me this:

'When he does, the boy will be in terrible danger.' Why is a missed in this situation and will it be the same if I say "The boy
will be in a terrible danger?" or it is wrong? Is there a rule fo those situations? Another ex.:

'It is time it is returned to you'.
