The use of "stay down"

Hi

Is the use of "stay down" natural in English?

[said to the person who has come down on the street from his flat on the second story]

I'm on my way to you -- stay down.

[means don't go back up again]

Thanks,

Tom

Thanks!

Will "wait downstairs" work even if the person is on the street now (waiting for his friend)?

And does "stay down" grate on native ears?

It sounds like a command I give my dog.

If he's not in the lobby downstairs, but outside, then say:
Just wait where you are, I'll be there shortly.
