The use of "please be informed"

Hi

Is the use of the phrase "please be informed" in formal writing natural to native ears? For example:

Dear Parents:

Please be informed that the school will remain open...

Thanks,

Tom

PS: Should it be "Parents" or "parents"?

  • Yes, it sounds natural to a native speaker, and it would be used in the way that you have shown.
  • "Parents" would be capitalized because it is part of the salutation of the letter.
