Is the use of ON in "on penalties" similar to the ON in the following phrases?
on my watch, on the hustle, on duty, on holiday
The ONs above seem to have the meaning, "experiencing a state/process," but I'm not sure if I'm 100% correct on this. If so, "on penalties" would mean, "Man U beat Chelsea 3-0 when they were doing penalties (or, "on penalties").
Is my understanding correct?
Any thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated, this has been bugging me for quite some time
Jae Heun Lim Is my understanding correct? No, I don't interpret it like that. " I see the choice of "on" as basically because "can't think of any other/better preposition to use".
