The use of "obstreperous"

Hi

I happened to come across the word "obstreperous" twice this week while reading newspaper. Would you say it's fairly common?

Thanks,

Tom

It's common enough so as to be understandable by many (not most, perhaps). Boistrous might be more common.

Many thanks, Philip. I tried to edit my post but it was too late. Should I have written "the newspaper"? Or it's OK without article?

Yes. The article is necessary.

I'm not sure "boisterous" is a direct synonym for "obstreperous." It would help if you supplied the context or a link to your source.
