The use of "met" -- the mountains met...

Hi

Is the use of “met” natural here? Or are there better options?

[There were two small mountains with a little gap in between -- and a severe earthquake eliminated the gap… ]

The earthquake was so severe that the two mountains met and the gap between them disappeared.

Thanks,

Tom
