The use of "immerse"

Hi

I would like to know about the use of the word "immerse"--is is fairly common and natural in everyday English?

I was immersed in my work.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom Yes, I think that's a word you'll hear people use in conversation, though I wouldn't expect to hear it every single day. You'll often hear that word used in connection with language acquisition. Probably the best way to learn a language is to be immersed in it.

I think that this might be a better example of everyday use of this word: TO BE IMMERSED IN THOUGHTS
